Issue
The parallel frame renderer produced visual layout failures where code blocks and text segments were incorrectly rendered on the same line despite accurate character timing. This resulted in merged visual output, with no clear separation between code and text segments. Key issues included:
- Missing Line Breaks: Code and text segments appeared on the same line, despite being distinct logical segments.
- Unwanted Leading Spaces: Text segments following code blocks began with an unintended leading space, disrupting visual clarity.
- Insufficient Vertical Spacing: Segments on separate lines lacked adequate spacing, making visual distinctions between code and text ambiguous.
Culprit
Three technical issues caused the visual spacing failures:
- Missing Transition Detection: The system only detected transitions from code to text but failed to recognize transitions from text to code, leading to missed line breaks.
- Horizontal Position Not Reset: Vertical spacing was applied correctly, but the horizontal position was not reset to the left margin for new segments, causing misalignment.
- Forced Space Separator: An unconditional space was inserted between all segments, which was unnecessary and visually disruptive for code-text transitions.
Solution
The following adjustments resolved the visual spacing issues:
- Complete Transition Handling: Implemented bidirectional detection for both text-to-code and code-to-text transitions, ensuring line breaks were added for all segment transitions.
- Horizontal Position Reset: Reset the horizontal position to the left margin after applying vertical spacing to ensure new segments started correctly aligned.
- Conditional Space Separator: Modified the logic to only insert spaces between text segments, eliminating unwanted spaces before text segments following code blocks.
- Enhanced Vertical Spacing: Increased vertical spacing between segments from one line height to two line heights for improved visual separation.
The updated implementation ensures accurate visual separation between code and text segments, maintaining precise character timing while improving readability.
