The project addressed a visual inconsistency in Astro blog post templates where an unintended gray border appeared between the header and content sections, disrupting the seamless design flow.
Issue
A subtle but disruptive 1px gray border separated the header from the content and featured image sections in blog and resolved post templates. This created an artificial visual division that conflicted with the intended continuous design, particularly in posts with featured images directly following the header.
Culprit
The border originated from a CSS border-bottom property applied to the header element. While the property was intended to enhance visual hierarchy, it introduced an unwanted line that disrupted the design system’s seamless transitions. The border used a CSS variable (--gray-800) for consistency but failed to align with the intended visual flow.
Solution
The solution involved removing the border-bottom property while preserving the existing padding to maintain proper spacing between the header and content. This adjustment ensured:
- A clean, uninterrupted transition from header to content.
- Consistent vertical spacing through retained padding values.
- No additional CSS modifications, as the padding alone provided sufficient visual separation without the artificial border.
This approach resolved the visual disruption while upholding the design system’s integrity and user experience.
