Static SVG visualization showed technology names but provided no way to access details | Users clicked tech names expecting documentation but received no response due to missing event handlers

Enhanced the interactivity of a technology visualization by implementing clickable nodes and markdown-based documentation. Previously, users could not access detailed information about technologies displayed in the visualization.

Issue

The visualization rendered technology names as static elements without click interactivity. Users expected to access detailed documentation by clicking on technology names, but the system lacked the necessary event handlers and content management system.

Culprit

  • Missing Event Handlers: The visualization did not include click event listeners for technology names.
  • No Content System: There was no mechanism to store or fetch detailed documentation for each technology.
  • Hydration Problems: Initial attempts with external component libraries introduced compatibility issues and performance overhead.

Solution

Interactive Visualization Nodes

Added click event handlers to the visualization nodes to trigger detailed content display. This allowed users to click on technology names and access related documentation.

Native Dialog System

Implemented a native HTML dialog system to render markdown content, eliminating the need for external libraries and improving compatibility. The dialog system included:

  • Smooth animations and transitions.
  • Support for native browser features like ESC key and click-outside-to-close.
  • Consistent styling that matched the site’s design system.

Markdown Content Management

Created a content management system for technology documentation using markdown files. This system allowed for easy updates and maintenance of detailed technology descriptions.

Added Previous/Next buttons in the dialog footer to enable seamless navigation between different technologies without closing the dialog.

Results: Users can now click on technology names to access detailed documentation through a native dialog system. The solution eliminated compatibility issues and improved performance while maintaining a consistent user experience.
