Long text lines in video rendering exceed screen boundaries due to missing word wrapping logic | Characters render continuously without checking screen width, causing text cutoff

Video rendering systems failed to handle text overflow, resulting in unreadable lines extending beyond screen boundaries. The issue arose due to the absence of automatic line wrapping, causing text to render continuously without regard for screen width or resolution.

Issue

Text rendered in video output exceeded screen boundaries, producing long, unbroken lines that either disappeared off-screen or got cut off. This occurred regardless of the display’s resolution or aspect ratio, leading to poor readability.

Culprit

The rendering logic used a continuous horizontal drawing method without boundary checks. Text was drawn sequentially without verifying if the cumulative width would exceed screen limits, leading to unchecked horizontal progression.

Solution

A dynamic word wrapping mechanism was introduced to adapt text rendering to screen dimensions:

Margin Calculation

A right margin was defined as 95% of the screen width, providing consistent padding across all resolutions (e.g., 16:9, 4:3, ultrawide). This ensured text remained within visible boundaries.

Word Wrapping Logic

  1. Pre-calculation: For each word, the full width was measured before rendering.
  2. Boundary Check: If adding the word’s width would exceed the right margin, the word was wrapped to the next line.
  3. Adaptive Rendering: Text continued on the new line with updated positioning, preserving formatting.

Implementation Scope

The solution was applied uniformly across three rendering pathways: syntax-highlighted text, gradient text, and solid-color text. This ensured consistent behavior regardless of text styling.

The approach maintains word-level wrapping (avoiding mid-word breaks) while dynamically adjusting to any screen resolution.
