Text-to-code concatenation in Python generates invalid Markdown when code blocks lack preceding newlines | Fix ensures proper formatting for Markdown parsers and video rendering

Issue

A Python-based Markdown generation system dynamically combined text segments and code blocks for video script processing. However, the generated Markdown files contained malformed code blocks where Python functions appeared immediately after text without a newline separator, violating Markdown syntax requirements. For example:

  • Incorrect: Here's a Python function: def hello(name):
  • Correct: Here's a Python function: def hello(name):

This issue caused parsing errors and misaligned text wrapping, particularly when concatenating segments for video rendering.

Culprit

The root cause was a hardcoded space separator between all segments in the concatenation logic. The system added a space character after every segment, regardless of whether the next segment was code or text. This resulted in invalid Markdown syntax when:

  • A text segment ended with punctuation (e.g., colon, period).
  • A code segment followed immediately without a newline separator.
  • Markdown parsers failed to validate the concatenated output.

Solution

A content-aware separator system was implemented to dynamically determine the appropriate separator based on the type of the next segment:

  • Newline (\n) is added before code segments to comply with Markdown syntax requirements.
  • Space ( ) is used between text segments to maintain natural language flow.

This approach ensures:

  • Valid Markdown syntax for code blocks.
  • Proper text alignment and readability.
  • Compatibility with the video rendering pipeline.

Verification The solution was tested with a sample input containing text followed by a code block, confirming:

  • Correct insertion of newlines before code blocks.
  • Maintenance of 70-character alignment for text segments.
  • Unaffected performance of the video rendering pipeline.

Result: The system now generates correctly formatted Markdown files, ensuring compatibility with parsers and rendering pipelines while preserving the integrity of code and text segments.
