Issue
The Kubernetes Helm deployment for Redis using Bitnami charts failed due to image pull errors. The deployment attempted to use specific Docker Hub image tags that no longer existed, causing the pods to fail with Failed to pull image errors for both the Redis server and the metrics exporter.
Culprit
The root cause was a combination of two issues:
-
Removed Image Tags: Bitnami had removed or renamed specific Debian-12-based image tags from Docker Hub, which were referenced in the Helm deployment.
-
Inconsistent Tagging Scheme: Bitnami’s image tagging scheme did not maintain stable patch-level tags, leading to unavailable tags in the Helm configuration.
The HelmRelease configuration was hardcoded to use these non-existent tags, resulting in failed pod deployments.
Solution
The issue was resolved by:
-
Immediate Workaround: Modified the HelmRelease configuration to use
latesttags for Redis and temporarily disabled the metrics exporter to avoid further deployment failures. -
Redis Functionality Verification: Confirmed Redis server functionality by manually testing connectivity using the Redis CLI.
-
Deferred Metrics Re-enablement: Planned to re-enable metrics once stable image tags are identified or alternative image sources are used.
These changes ensured Redis server operability while deferring monitoring integration until a stable solution for the metrics exporter is found.
